Ascension Island is a small and remote volcanic island lying just south of the Equator about halfway between South America and West Africa.
    The wildlife consists mainly of tropical sea birds and marine life.


Sooty Terns are also known as Wideawake Terns.
They return to the island every 9.6 calendar months to breed.

Young terns hide in the lava until their parents return with food.
